Bankrut Village is, sparsely populated, with the real tropical nature of Thailand with wonderful long beaches. At the top of the mountain is a Buddha overlooking the sea and a palace named Chedi Phakdi Paka. A beautiful Thai palace with many rooms in a place with breathtaking views.

The Bankrut Village itself offers not much more than a few restaurants, cocktail bars, market, pizzerias and convenient stores. This location is ideal for those who stay for a long time and want to enjoy peace, nature, good food and tropical temperatures. The green environment can easily be visited by scooter, bicycle or even on foot. There is normally not much traffic so wonderful for vacation rest. Please don’t go here if you want to party and shop.
This fishing village with many resorts is called: Bankrut. However, it is spelled in many different ways: Bangrood, Baangrood, Bankrut and sometimes with a space, but in Thai it is always the same spelling. There is a train station with the possibility to go south to Hatyai. Every day trains go also to Huahin and Bangkok. There is a (daily) morning market at this station where you can buy vegetables, fruit and meat. At the seaside you can rent bicycles, scooters and even sailing boats. Nice sailing is therefore an option!

It is a 12 km wide and a beautiful beach. Originally, there were plenty of bergamots (a type of non edible citrus) makrut in Thai, which influenced the name of the beach. The atmosphere in this area is serene and shady with coconut trees. During weekends the Thais like to organise their weddingparty at the beach here. The locals are a fishing community scattered along the beach. These fishermen like to use green lights at night to attract squid. So when you have dinner at a beach restaurant you are likely to have a beautiful scene with these green light of fishing boats. It is a place where tourists can experience the lifestyle of fishermen, the seafood preservation process, and the catching of jellyfish for export.
Getting to Bankrut Village
- By car or taxi take Hwy 4 (Phetchakasem Rd) to km382. Turn left along the Phetchakasem–Ban Krut Rd and cross the railway track. Travel for approximately 9 km to the Bankrut Beach Rd.
- By trainGet off at the Ban Krut Railway Station and continue with a taxi motorcycle.
- By busTake the Bangkok–Bang Saphan Noi bus and get off at the entrance to Ban Krut and continue with a motorcycle taxi or songthaew.
