Funeral of Koning Bhumibol (Rama IX)

Funeral of Koning Bhumibol (Rama IX)

ID:12863

At the moment there are not that many longstayers in Thailand, so you may not know it yet… the whole of Thailand is slowly moving towards this Thursday 26 October. The day on which we will say goodbye to King Bhumibol (Rama IX) , the national mourning day. The clothing regulations are clear: Clothing, hats, fans and umbrellas must be black. This will also be the case for our King Maxima who comes to Bangkok for this occasion.
Despite a conversation with one of my Thai colleagues who told me that the dress code goes so far that black clothes are prohibited after these mourning ceremonies. Prohibited yes, this out of respect for our new king X Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun. The trade naturally does with the sale of black clothing:

We want to express our deepest condolences to the people of Thailand and all others who love the King.
